1.  Firefighter/Paramedic

The Greenville Fire Department has an opening for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic and is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill this position.  For those meeting the minimum qualifications, applications must be received at Alabama Employment Office, 117 West Commerce St. Greenville, AL 36037 by 8/19/16.

Work Schedule: 24-hour shift; 24 hours on-duty/48 hours off duty.


Applicants must participate in a written and problem solving exercise, as well as an interview panel. As a condition of employment, any person chosen to fill this position must successfully complete a physical, background check and drug screen.


Compensation & Benefits: Base Salary Range: $30,700 -$43,200, DOQ.  Sick leave is accumulated at 10.8 hrs./month, paid annual leave starts at 80 hours/year after the first year of employment.  Life, health, dental and vision insurance.  Membership in the State Retirement System. Opportunity for advancement.  


Job description: Responds to fire alarms, Emergency Medical Service (EMS) calls and other emergencies; drives fire apparatus and operates pump. Performs fire suppression functions including rescue, deploying and operating hose, ventilate roofs, perform salvage work after fires, and other related tasks associated with fire suppression. Works in an outdoor environment subject to extreme temperatures and inclement weather, with intermittent exposure to heights, dust, fumes and loud noise. Must be able to maintain physical activity over prolonged periods of time including standing, walking, kneeling and stooping in awkward positions, and moving/lifting heavy objects as required. 


Administers Advanced Life Support to the sick and injured.Must be able to operate in the rescue setting and knowledgeable of ambulance operations, including knowing the routes and location of area hospitals. Must be able to work under stressful conditions and demonstrate a positive attitude with understanding, respect and compassion for the patients we treat.  


Inspects, cleans, and maintains apparatus, equipment,quarters, and grounds; studies technical materials on equipment operation, fire suppression and fire prevention to improve or maintain an effective level of performance. Maintains a general knowledge of the City of Greenville to include the location of major businesses, schools, churches and day care centers.Utilizes a computer to enter incident data and patient care information.Conducts inspections of businesses and hydrants to ensure compliance with Insurance Service Organization (ISO). Participates in fire prevention activities.Communicates with the general public and performs community service and public education activities.  


Minimum Qualifications:


       Applicant must be 18 years of age


       Current Alabama Driverís License


       Current State of Alabama Paramedic License


       Current Firefighter I certification, as recognized by the Alabama Fire College.


       Current Hazmat Awareness & Operations certification, recognized by the Alabama Fire College


       NIMS 100, 200, 700 & 800; Completed within 6months of employment
