    Q.  What is GPRD?
    A.  The Greenville Parks and Recreation Department is a division of the City of Greenville.  We provide recreational opportunities for youth and adults ranging from baseball and softball to basketball and volleyball.

    Q.  How can I reach you?
    A.

Our offices are located at 1016 East Commerce Street or you can call us at 334-382-3031 or 334-382-4681.

    Q.  Are you affilitated with any outside organizations?
    A.  Yes, we are.  In spring and summer youth sports we participate in Dixie Baseball and Softball.  Our adult softball program is affiliated with ASA.  In other sports, such as basketball and track and field, we take part in Alabama Recreation and Parks Association sponsored programs.

    Q.  How old does my child have to be to participate?
    A.  Children ages 4 and up can take part in some of our programs.  However, eligibility does hinge on birthday guidelines established by such organizations as Dixie and ARPA.  Check with our office to make certain your child is eligible for the league he or she wants to participate in.

    Q.  Where do you play?
    A.  Our basketball and volleyball leagues play their games at Dunbar Community Center (School Highlands Road).  Our T-ball and Mite League baseball teams play at Dunbar Park (Dunbar Street) while Dixie Minors (AAA) and Dixie Youth (Majors) are located at Day Memorial Park on Cunningham Street.  Dixie Boys and Dixie Majors both play at Beeland Complex on East Commerce Street.  All softball games (youth and adult) are played at the Greenville Softball Complex on Pineapple Highway.

    Q.  When I register my child, what information will I need?
    A.  On your initial visit we will ask for a birth certificate that will remain on file as long as your child participates in GPRD programs.  Each year you will need to update insurance information and provide us with shirt sizes for your child.

    Q.  What if I don't have insurance?
    A.  Each child must have insurance coverage before he or she can participate.  If you don't have your own policy, we can provide (for a small fee) a policy through one of our affiliate organizations.

    Q.  What is the registration fee?
    A.

It is $20 for one child and $10 more for each additional child up to three children for $40.  More than three children?  It's still $40.

    Q.  What does the registration fee provide?
    A.  In baseball and softball, your registration fee covers the cost of a cap and shirt.  In basketball, shirts are provided.

    Q.  It's raining. Are we going to play tonight?
    A.  Canceling games is something we don't like to do, so we wait until all doubt is removed before making that call.  When a decision is made, we will post that informaiton on this website and you may also call 371-BALL (2255).

    Q.  When I get my schedule, is it set in stone?
    A.

We'd like to say it is but because of rainouts and other unforeseen problems cancellations may occur.  We do adjust the schedule from time to time for makeup games etc.
